FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EWA INFORMATION OPERATIONS RED TEAMS TEACH MILITARY SERVICES TO TURN INFORMATION INTO ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE As seen in the April online edition of SIGNAL Magazine.

EWA’s world wide deployment of Information Operations (IO) Red Teams gives the Services and their subordinate commands valuable opportunities to practice using their SIGINT equipment against real-world simulated opposition forces (OPFOR). Using COTS tactical communications and SIGINT systems to represent real-world threats, EWA’s IO Red Teams help the Services develop tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), building essential skills in turning information into actionable intelligence.

“Before deployment into theater, our Red Teams train military tactical SIGINT teams to process collected information into actionable intelligence,” says Don Stoner, San Antonio Operations Manager “and it’s had a significant positive impact on their overall effectiveness in theater.”

Feedback from the Services described Red Team training as “an absolute must,” “a force multiplier,” and “an outstanding resource.” Radio Battalion senior NCOs returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have said the Red Team training they received prior to deployment enabled them to be ready when they landed in theater, unlike earlier deployments when it took three to four months to get up to speed.

“It’s rewarding to see how quickly the skills of tactical personnel ramp up when they’ve been using their own equipment in a real-world training scenario, and how well they’re then able to turn that data around for definitive action,” Stoner adds, “I know they’ll be better prepared in theater after facing one of our Red Teams.”

Committed to quality and fully responsive to customers’ changing needs, the IO Red Teams provide field and garrison training support anytime, anywhere. Red Team members have provided IO OPFOR support to multiple military units during exercises world-wide since 2001 including:

  • Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC)
  • Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron (MAWTS-1)
  • Joint Readiness Training Center, Ft Polk
  • US Marine Corps Radio Battalions
  • National Training Center, Ft Irwin
  • Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC)
  • USA MI 31D, 4th BCT
  • Mojave Viper, TTECG 29 Palms

IO Red Teams provide expertise in command and control systems that replicate adversary tactical communication networks with professionally scripted scenarios in deploying units’ specific areas of operations. In concert with the Services “White Cell” training teams, EWA IO Red Teams develop scripted scenarios that enhance the viability of turning collected intelligence into actionable intelligence. IO Red Teams also provide validation of blue force statistics, techniques and procedures to disrupt or deny targeted adversary communications systems.

EWA’s IO Red Teams possess diverse skills and expertise including:

  • New technology tactical communications to replicate current real-world adversaries command and control by providing:
    • Cellular broadcasts, focusing on GSM format
    • Long Range cordless phones
    • VHF, UHF handheld commercial radios
    • Wireless networks
    • Adversary chat rooms and websites

  • Replication of adversary real-world SIGINT collection capabilities
    • Semi-fixed communications intercept stations
    • Mobile intercept with remote capabilities
    • Command and control scripted communications scenarios designed on exercise or real-world threat

  • Validation source for Blue Force information operations tactics and techniques
    • Electronic Attack jamming effectiveness
    • Tactical Command and Control Security
